Experience

  • Having an individual session can swiftly highlight unnecessary patterns that may interfere with you living in a more peaceful body.

Sessions are available in person or on-line. Short introductory courses are available as well as more in-depth study for those already familiar with the Technique.

Everyone has their own individual approach to movement. There can be considerable benefit in taking time to become more familiar with your own unique styles. With very gentle indirect practice applying the Alexander principles you become more aware of unnecessary tension patterns. You will learn how to recognise how the force of habit influences the way in which you manifest in the world. Letting go of tension and strain promotes an upwards orientation within the body. The head aims away from the top of the spine allowing the whole of the back to lengthen and widen producing a feeling of lightness and ease in both body and mind. You will be able to apply what you learn during lesson to everyday situations.

  • I offer workshops for specialist groups for example singers or musicians, movement educators.

Workshops are designed to foster curiosity and highlight how we interact with our environment. They impart practical tips and advice to enable participants to feel more comfortable as well as energised.

The latest in the workshop series is entitled: ‘Are you Sitting Comfortably?’ It highlights how we sit has a huge influence on comfort. Are you sitting comfortably right now? Do you feel comfortable and at ease after spending lengthy periods in front your computer, laptop, tablet or TV? Long hours spent in the same position can make us feel tired, achey, stiff and can lead to neck, shoulder or lower back pain.

I have discovered simple alterations to our sitting posture can make lasting changes to our comfort.

  • A holiday break provides a great opportunity to study the Alexander Work on a more intensive basis.

This summer there is a special introductory offer in June/July. For a weekend you can immerse yourself in learning the basic principles. There is much to be said for focussing on oneself away from the usual daily routine. After your weekend you will not only feel refreshed and relaxed but you will have gained useful skills which you can then continue to apply at home.

The areas of Bournemouth and the nearby Isle of Purbeck need no introduction as a great holiday destinations in any season, and Sakura Studio is particularly well located very close to the clifftop and beach. There is a huge choice of accommodation in the town available to suit all budgets, and you can even to stay next door at Yoku House.

  • As well individual sessions I regularly run corporate workshops to promote overall health and well-being. Based on the main principles of the Alexander work it incorporates the essential DSE guidelines. Click here to read more.
